All About Ms. Watson
Hello and welcome! My name is Elizabeth Watson. This is my fifth year teaching at Irwin Academic Center and I must say that so far this journey has been nothing short of amazing! This is my fifth year teaching Talent Development, and this is my second year teaching 5th grade! I finished my TD Certification from Queens University Spring 2017, and I am so excited to transmit all of my learning into my teaching practice! I am currently taking the next steps in my career and working on obtaining my master's in gifted education through Western Carolina University.
It is true that learning is for a lifetime! I have truly found my passion in educating our unique gifted population at Irwin Academic Center. So far, I have enjoyed using TD strategies in the classroom as well as implementing enrichment lessons that encourage my students to use their critical thinking skills and "think outside of the box". I truly believe that these skills will better prepare our students to be our future leaders, and I expect nothing less of them!
I grew up in a small town outside of Asheville, NC, called Forest City. I know, you have probably never heard of it. I come from a family of educators, and the passion for teaching has been instilled in me since before I can remember. I graduated Cum Laude from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in International Studies. I received my TD Certification in Spring 2017, and I am starting my National Boards Certification this school year.
For fun, I enjoy reading suspense novels, cooking lots of yummy things, running, biking, hiking, and pretty much anything outdoors. Not to mention playing with my adorable puppy (pictured to the left) named Charlee. She is a black lab mix and adopting her has brought so much joy into my life!
Each day I go into the classroom with an open mind, open heart, and a determination to make a difference in the lives of my brilliant students. I look forward to collaborating with you, and making this year a wonderful year filled with fun, creativity, and of course, LOTS of learning! :)
